On April 17 at 6 pm at the Galena Center for the Arts, the Poet Laureate Selection Committee invites you to attend the appointment of Galena's first ever Poet Laureate. The three finalists will each perform their poetry before the appointment is made. Pianist Desiree Irwin will perform, and refreshments will be served.

Galena will be the smallest city in the nation to appoint a Poet Laureate. The position will entail working in the community alongside the Galena Public Library, the Galena School District, the Galena Center for the Arts, and the City of Galena to celebrate the heritage, uniqueness, diversity, and achievements of the City of Galena through the appreciation and art of poetry.
